Problem Statement

In today's fitness landscape, people struggle to understand their overall fitness progress and how they compare to others with similar goals. While numerous fitness apps track individual metrics like steps, calories, or workout frequency, there's no comprehensive solution that provides users with a holistic fitness ranking system that motivates continued improvement and creates healthy competition.

Objective

To gather real-world user insights within a limited time frame, I conducted a review analysis of popular fitness apps on the Google Play Store, including apps like Home Workout, Fitify, and MyFitnessPal. This approach provided quick, scalable feedback from thousands of actual users.

By analyzing common themes across reviews, I was able to identify recurring pain points, feature requests, and user expectations, which helped guide my design decisions. Key takeaways included:

Frustration with apps that require wearable devices to track progress

A desire for more flexible, manual logging features

Appreciation for clean UI and visual progress tracking

Negative reactions to overly complicated graphs and stat-heavy dashboards

Solution

The design concept behind Fit Rank was to create a fitness tracking app that feels simple, supportive, and empowering — even on imperfect days. Inspired by the reality that users don’t always complete every workout or wear smart devices, the app focuses on flexibility, clarity, and positive reinforcement.
